Knowing Your Coffee

No matter how much you may like to wake up and smell the coffee it is still easy to get confused between the exotic sounding Macchiato and the equally exotic sounding Caffe Mocha. That’s not surprising too! Everything else being the same, the only difference between the two is that a Macchiato is topped with a delightful dollop of cream whereas Caffe Mocha is topped with the sumptuous froth from hot chocolate.
Here are a few of the more popular specialty coffees as well as the different kinds of roasts of coffee and what differentiates one from the other.
Expresso
Italian in origin and with an intense, hearty flavor, expresso is typically served in a demitasse cup. It is a dark roasted coffee that is brewed by forcing very hot water under pressure through the finely ground coffee beans in a specially designed expresso machine. The strength of the coffee is regulated by the darkness of the beans after roasting, the density with which they are packed in the machine as well as the amount of water in which they are infused.
Caffe Borgia
A petit cup of expresso topped with lemon and orange peels is called Caffe Borgia.
