Finding Great Coffee in Paris, France

OK, I admit it … I’m a bit of a coffee evangelist, someone who loves the taste of good coffee. My background is that I’ve had coffee in many countries of the world, and my favourite is Italian coffee, made in an espresso machine. Luckily for me, there is a huge Italian population in Australia and many of us have become connoisseurs because of the wealth of fantastic cafes in Sydney, Melbourne and other locations.

My favourite type of coffee is a latte which is comprised of good strong Italian coffee, topped off by thick creamy hot milk and a bit of foam.

What’s that I hear you ask? “Have you ever been unhappy with a coffee?”

Yes, I’ve sent back lukewarm tasteless coffees in many cafes. This doesn’t mean I’m a coffee snob, it just means I like to have a bit of coffee in my coffee if you know what I mean :-)

When I was visiting Paris, France recently I knew I’d need to find some good coffee. I’ve lived in Paris and visited many times, and the French are not known for their coffee. Or milk. My experiences on this trip brought back vivid memories of when I lived there … lots of cafes served coffee that tasted like tar, and the milk added was almost always UHT milk – milk which doesn’t need refrigerating, and which has a smell which is hard to describe.

So – the search was on! I arrived in Paris and found the closest internet caf

Coffee Beans Come in Many Forms and Tastes

Coffee beans come in many forms and tastes so thus coffee makers in varying shape and size come with different features. There are automatic coffee machines to brew coffee how you want it when you want it.

There is a coffee machine that will match one’s taste. Whether one like espresso, cappuccino, latte, or simple brewed coffee, all is possible with a touch of a button. Coffee lovers can invest for a good coffee machine which can last for decades if well maintained. It is not really difficult to maintain these automatic coffee machines, for the steps can be as simple as turning them off when not in use. They can also be cleaned by dripping a solution of water and vinegar in one cycle at least once a month.

These machines can also save you time when you are in a hurry to work or busy attending to the needs of you family. Everything can be set to brew for itself and everyone can enjoy a hot cup of freshly brewed coffee. The options vary when it comes to choosing a coffee maker. The following stand out from the rest and is the common choice of the most discerning coffee lovers:

Jura Capresso makes authentic cappuccino, lattes, espressos, and hot chocolate. This is a Swiss made coffee machine which is popular to coffee enthusiast all over the world. The company is the maker of innovative coffee centers known for their beautiful design, sophistication, and ease of use.

Jura Capresso ensures fresh coffee every time with its high pressure brewing method which creates a particular taste depending on the coffee lovers’ desires. This coffee center has a sixty second standard when it comes to grinding, tamping, and brewing coffee. It also takes only minute to clean the machine.

Espresso machines on the other hand make the traditional Italian espresso coffee. This process is very specific. Espresso is seven to ten grams of grounded coffee densely packed in a specific amount of force plus 200 degree Fahrenheit water. There are also several designs of espresso machines. It can be piston driven which makes use of a lever system to pressurize the hot water sipping it to the coffee. Pump driven machines are a refinement where a motor pumps the machine so brewing can be completed. Steam driven machines works by driving water thru the coffee beans using steam pressure.

Automatic coffee machines how simple or complicated, aims for only one thing: that is a perfect experience for a coffee lover. These machines can make cups in a matter of minutes. Just remember to clean them after so the brewing and coffee aroma will keep on flowing for years.

Iced Coffee Recipes for Enjoying Chilled Espresso, Thai Iced Coffee And Many More Variations

There are many refreshing iced coffee recipes available, and we have selected some of the most interesting for you. However, my favorite of all it the traditional Italian iced coffee recipe which uses freshly made espresso, a cocktail shaker and ice cubes. In fact, if you ask for an iced coffee in Italy this is the only recipe they will serve. Poured into a cocktail glass, the chilled Italian espresso is second to none.

When the heat is on try this traditional Italian iced coffee recipe …

So, how is the Italian iced coffee recipe actually made? Simple, like all good things. Use your espresso machine, if you have one, to make a normal shot for one, two or more servings. Pour the freshly made espresso coffee into the cocktail shaker, add ice cubes (the ice doesn’t get poured into the glasses with the coffee, so the flavor isn’t diluted), close the shaker and shake like crazy! Pour into cocktail glasses and enjoy. Surprisingly, the iced coffee will not be a dark espresso brown color, but a creamy beige .

Bermuda Iced Coffee

For this recipe, you’ll need coffee, cream, sugar and coffee flavor ice-cream. Pour the coffee, cream, sugar and 1 or 2 scoops of ice-cream into a blender. Blend, and serve cold in glasses or mugs. Tastes great, but if you’re on a diet beware.

Fresh Lemon Cafe

Here you’ll need 1/4 cup of coffee to which you add 2 oz of lemon sherbet, 1/2 tsp of lemon juice, 1 tsp of grated lemon rind and 1 tsp of sugar. Place the contents to your blender and blend until smooth. Serve in chilled glasses.

Cinnamon Caramel

This recipe has an interesting taste. You’ll need about 6 tsp of ground coffee, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, 1/2 cup caramel syrup. Prepare a pot of coffee in the usual way, but add the cinnamon to the ground coffee. Add the syrup to the hot coffee and stir until dissolved. Chill the coffee and serve over ice with milk, cream or sugar. For an interesting variation, you could also use this coffee, but chill it in the way of the traditional Italian iced coffee recipe above.

Thai Iced Coffee

Here’s another interesting variation. You’ll need strong ground coffee for brewing 4 cups, 4 tsp sugar, 4 tsp heavy cream, 2 tsp ground cardamom, 1 tsp almond flavoring, crushed ice. Add the cardamom to the ground coffee and brew, when ready add the sugar and almond flavoring, mix well and leave to cool or chill in fridge. Fill four glasses half way with the crushed ice, then add the coffee leaving about an inch or a little more from the rim of the glass. Hold a spoon over the coffee and gently pour the cream over the spoon so that the cream floats on the top of your iced coffee.

Well, that’s it. These are just a few of the many iced coffee recipes that are available today. Part of the fun is also experimenting. Enjoy.

Knowing Your Coffee

No matter how much you may like to wake up and smell the coffee it is still easy to get confused between the exotic sounding Macchiato and the equally exotic sounding Caffe Mocha. That’s not surprising too! Everything else being the same, the only difference between the two is that a Macchiato is topped with a delightful dollop of cream whereas Caffe Mocha is topped with the sumptuous froth from hot chocolate.

Here are a few of the more popular specialty coffees as well as the different kinds of roasts of coffee and what differentiates one from the other.

Expresso

Italian in origin and with an intense, hearty flavor, expresso is typically served in a demitasse cup. It is a dark roasted coffee that is brewed by forcing very hot water under pressure through the finely ground coffee beans in a specially designed expresso machine. The strength of the coffee is regulated by the darkness of the beans after roasting, the density with which they are packed in the machine as well as the amount of water in which they are infused.

Caffe Borgia

A petit cup of expresso topped with lemon and orange peels is called Caffe Borgia.

All About Coffee

When you are making gourmet coffee at home, you will need to use whole coffee beans, grinding the beans just before brewing insures the freshest coffee as if they are exposed to the air for too long the coffee beans will oxidize, thereby potentially ruining the taste. Of course, you don’t have to grind your own, if you prefer you can purchase coffee already grounded. Personally I really prefer to grind my own, and remember to only grind just enough for the amount you’re brewing.

Grinding The Coffee Beans

Widely considered to be one of the best types of coffee grinders is the burr variety, the coffee beans are loaded into a holding hopper which feeds them into the bean grinding mechanism, or burr’s as they are commonly known. The burrs provide a slow grinding of the coffee beans which is perfect for best results. Blade grinders, on the other hand, use razor sharp blades that spin, grinding the beans in the process. Although these are pretty good, the cheaper models do suffer from irregular grinding.

What Type Of Coffee – The Arabica

All Kenyan coffee is of the Arabica variety, grown on rich volcanic soils in the highlands of Kenya. There are two main species of coffee plant – Arabica and Robusta. Gourmet coffee houses serve the smooth and very palatable Arabica coffees, while the worst cup of coffee you ever had probably came from a pot of bitter Robusta coffee that had been sitting around for hours.

What Type Of Coffee – The Robusta

Traditionally Balinese coffee was of the robusta variety. The origins of Robusta can be traced back to the beginning of the 20th century or earlier

Robusta tends to be higher in caffeine and can be grown in climates and environments were Arabica would not be profitable, Its also typically more bitter and acidic in flavour. In contrast most Italian coffee is brewed very strong from the lower-quality Robusta bean, which might suggest why Italy gave us such innovations as cappuccino (coffee with steamed milk) and flavoured coffees.

What Type Of Coffee – Jamaican Coffee

There is a huge demand for Blue Mountain Jamaican Coffee, and a very limited supply. As a result, genuine, 100% Blue Mountain Jamaican coffee is sometimes not available, at any given price.

Italian Roast Coffee For An Authentic Espresso

One of the things people think of with Italy is it’s coffee. In fact Italian roast coffee is perfect for bringing a touch of Europe to your home. Can 50 million plus Italians all be wrong? Well, with Italian roast you can’t go wrong either.

Generally speaking, Italian Roast coffee is darker in colour than most roasted blends of coffee and consequently develops an intense, full-bodied flavour from the blend of Pacific and Latin American origins. It seems to be richer and fuller and has a bit of a bite to it. The aroma is balanced and complex.

Why the name Italian Roast when coffee comes from Brazil?

As is known, most of the coffee we drink today originates from Latin America or the Pacific, so where does the name Italian Roast come from?

Well, the name Italian Roast derives from the dark roasted blend style that is commonly used in Italy. And do the Italians know a thing or two about their coffee? I think they do. Naturally it goes without saying, if you grind your own, Italian roast coffee is perfect for making authentic espresso. If served in Illy Collection cups, for instance, you cant go wrong.

There is espresso coffee and espresso coffee, but with an Italian roast blend the difference is clear

In fact, most of today’s household names, such as Gaggia, Lavazza and Illy are Italian family companies that have conquered the world with their particular blends of coffee, targeted marketing and wonderful coffee making machines. Gaggia, for instance started business in the 1940’s, not so long ago, but they are recognised as a well respected coffee-company in most of the world.

Similar with Lavazza, started in Turin, not only famous for its coffee, but also a prestigious calendar, similar to that of Pirelli. And what espresso lover isn’t familiar with the Illy Collection; neat espresso cups with exclusive designs produced in limited numbers.

Do you think all this could have been possible without a deep knowledge and respect for coffee? Italian roast must deserve some of the success of these companies.

Italian Cuisine – The History

Italian cuisine is becoming increasingly popular in the UK. Although this is a recent change in the restaurant industry, Italian cuisine dates back to the 4th century BC where the roots are derived from potatoes, maize, bell pepper and tomato. Usually an Italian meal would be made up of three to four courses and are seen as a time to spend with family and friends which can be much longer than in other cultures, sometimes lasting for many hours. One very unique aspect of an Italian meal, is the primo or first course. This is usually the most filling dish which would consist of either risotto or pasta, both being rich in carbohydrates. However, modern Italian cuisine would include this as a single course.

It was at the beginning of the 18th century that the culinary books of Italy began to show the regionalism of Italian cuisine. So many of what we eat today comes from over two centuries of Italian history. Through various influences throughout the centuries, including neighbouring regions, conquerors, high-profile chefs, political upheavals as well as the discovery of the New World, a concrete cuisine has formed to what is known today as one of the premiere cuisines in the world. Popular Italian dishes include many pastas and risottos as well as espresso coffee that originally comes from Italy. Also, traditional pizzas are very popular, which many pizzeria restaurants becoming popular all over Britain.

The reasons for Italian cuisine being so popular are that it combines very simple ingredients with seasoning and herbs, creating tasty mouth watering meals to suit most taste buds. You are able to get many vegetarian dishes as well as meat dishes which allows Italian cuisine to be very versatile. Another reason why Italian restaurants are popular is that the food that is made is fresh and healthy.

For great Italian cuisine, the Italian kitchen is a great Italian restaurant in Glasgow. The Italian kitchen is based in the merchant city area of Glasgow and offers a menu full of authentic Italian cuisine.

Italian Coffee Tables

In the Italian culture, the coffee table is a place of family gathering. Italian coffee tables have been constructed for centuries by artisans who pass their craft down from generation to generation. Many people work at the same plant their entire lifetime. Whether the coffee table is actually from Italy, or in the Italian style, this craftsmanship is not denied or overlooked.

A place to relax after a long day’s journey, the coffee table awaits your arrival to your home at the end of the day. It is the keeper of the remote, the magazine, and holder of drinks. Contemporary and classic styles are a hallmark of the Italian design. Perhaps the artist wishes to create a piece with an antique wood and crystal.

The Tuscan style offers tables with thick glass and traditional wood finishes, adding round edges and intricately designed legs. Italian coffee tables can come in a number of sizes and shapes to fit virtually any corner of your home. Many are produced with detailed and ornate carvings. The richer and darker the shade, the better the coffee table will compliment a room of light hues. Your own personal statement is what the Italians wish to capture as they construct their artwork for inclusion in your home.

Manufacturing of Italian coffee tables can be unique, at the very least. Very distinguishable, they offer something for any taste. You can find glass tops with wooden cross legs, sleek smooth geometrically shaped tables, contemporary multi-leveled tables can also be found.

Replicates of the age-old Maggioline style can turn heads as you try to distinguish them for the originals. Many companies offer the products including: Zen, Synthesis, Cinetico, Burano, ECT, and Tivoli. Impress your family and your guests with a purchase of the Italian style. They will be talking about it for a good time to come.

Italian Furniture

An Italian home says welcome and has a very welcoming atmosphere. Therefore when you are thinking about Italian furniture you should start with your kitchen as that is the heart of any Italian home. Creating that atmosphere in your kitchen is not that difficult as you may think. All you need is a little paint, arrangement of the right furniture and a few other accessories.

You can start with adding a few decorations to your walls, such as a picture of spaghetti and meatballs or a picture with olives on it. Olives are a staple with Italians, so why not incorporate it into your dishes. Try using trays that have grapes or olives on them. It will make a world of difference. Once you have started this you can build on it and before you know it you will have Italian all over your kitchen in no time. In your kitchen you can add a wine rack and some old wine bottles place some glasses around it to get that Italian effect. This will make a wonderful addition to your Italian home.

When it comes to your walls, they should be colorful. You should use rich earthy tones like the ones you would see out in the vineyards of Italy. They should also include some type of texture and you can do this by using a sponge or rag while you paint the walls or if you wish stucco can be used. Finish your room by adding a decorative molding between the top of the wall and the ceiling.

Another important addition to your Italian kitchen is fresh herbs in terra cotta pots on your window sill. These not only can be used but they also add a wonderful fragrance throughout your kitchen. If you don’t use that many fresh herbs, then you can find the pots that hold artificial herbs and will give the same effect.
